India's dairy production to reach 200 million tonnes by 2015
Within the next three years, the output of dairy products in India is expected to touch 200 million tonnes, the National Dairy Development Board Executive Director N V Belwadi said.
"By the end of 2015, India will be leading in the production of dairy products with 200 million tonnes of production as against the current 112 million tonnes," he said. Dr. Belwadi was speaking at a two-day All India Seminar on "Emerging Technologies in Diary Industry" organised jointly by Institution of Engineers and Karnataka State Milk Federation.
"It is good to note that India stands along with New Zealand in the production of dairy products at the top," he said.
"It is heartening to see that in the present situation where women are previously sidelined, 70% of milk produced in certain districts is under their organisation," he added.
Maintenance of transparency in distributor's transactions, concentration on biotechnology and enhancement in cattle feeding would also make huge difference in production, he said.
