Vietnam's northern province detects ASF case

Vietnam's local authorities in Hoa Binh province has detected African swine fever in Ngu hamlet, Hien Luong commune, where nearly 200 pigs had died since mid-April, Vietnam News Agency reported on Wednesday.

The hamlet has nearly 90 pig-raising households with a total of 400 pigs.

Local animal health officials have taken the sample for test, and local households were instructed to bury infected pigs as well as sterilised to prevent the disease from spreading.

African swine fever started in Vietnam last February and spread to all 63 provinces and cities, leading to the culling of more than 5.9 million pigs, accounting for about 9% of the country's total herds, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
