New Zealand's H1 2014 beef exports remain steady
For the first half of the current season, New Zealand's beef and veal exports were 189,600 tonnes worth NZD1.1 billion (US$942 million), according to Beef and Lamb New Zealand's chief economist Andrew Burtt.
He said those figures are very similar to the same period last season, but the destination for the beef is changing.
"The volumes have shifted from being a bit of decline in our traditional markets and some increase in some of other markets, particularly South Asian and Middle Eastern markets, which have offset the small declines in North America, North Asia and the EU."
In the first six months of the season, exports to Indonesia increased fourfold and accounted for 4.7% of New Zealand beef and veal exports.
