Canada invests up to US$2.8 million to support beef industry

 

 

Marie-Claude Bibeau, Canada's Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, announced that the government will invest up to CND 3.6 million (~US$2.8 million; CND 1 = US$0.78) to ensure the beef industry has the tools it needs to capture new export prospects, stay competitive, and continue to be a long-term engine of economic growth, Discover Estevan reported.

 

Bibeau said the investment will assist the industry in seizing development possibilities and ensuring that Canada's beef sector remains a driver of Canada's economy.

 

The investment, made under the AgriMarketing Programme, will be used to assist Canada Beef's efforts to grow beef and veal exports abroad through initiatives that aim to improve trust in Canada's beef sector. The project's actions will serve to strengthen Canada's worldwide beef brand and its partnerships with international trade partners.

 

This will assist farmers to become more competitive and increase beef sales in key foreign markets, all while supporting the Canadian beef industry's sustained development and prosperity, which contributes billions to the country's GDP.

 

Michael Young, president of Canada beef, said the investment will allow Canada's beef producers to to leverage with their own national check-off investment, important critical for setting the industry for growth and success in international markets.

 

He said the ability to collaborate with the Canadian government to fund and implement key projects is valued, particularly as the pandemic and global events contribute to a constantly changing marketplace.

 

The investment will also support the Canadian Beef Centre of Excellence (CBCE), a state-of-the-art training facility, which will provide training and e-learning activities. These efforts will assist the beef sector get a better understanding of the benefits of Canadian beef, enable it to promote its quality, and boost public trust in beef products.
