COFCO to build 7 eco-friendly pig farms in China's Hubei province

China's COFCO and the provincial government of Hubei province concluded an agreement on Saturday (Apr 26) which see the country's largest food and edible oil importer and exporter building seven environmentally friendly pig farms in the province this year.

These farms will be built in the districts of Huangpo, Hannan, Xinzhou and Jiangxia.

Total investment by COFCO for this project in Hubei province will increase from the original RMB320 million to RMB570 million.

As part of COFCO's plan, the farms will be stocked with quality swine breeds, which will be sourced from global suppliers.

Methane gas will be used in power generation while residuals from the pig's waste will be used to fertilize the surrounding farmlands. Organic fruit and vegetable farms will be built in proximity to the pig farms.
