Sanderson Farms to build poultry complex in North Carolina
Sanderson Farms has chosen sites in North Carolina for the construction of a new feed mill, poultry processing plant and hatchery.
These will make up a poultry complex with a capacity to process 1.25 million birds each week for the retail chill pack market.
At full capacity, the complex will have 1,500 workers, require 130 contract growers, and will be equipped to process and sell 6.7 million pounds a week of dress poultry meat at full production.
Sanderson Farms expects to invest about US$126.5 million in the new complex, and anticipates that associated contract growers will put in US$98 million more in poultry production facilities.
Construction of the complex will begin in summer 2008. Initial operation is scheduled to begin during the fourth fiscal quarter of 2009.
Sanderson Farms produces, processes, markets and distributes fresh and frozen chicken products.
