Cuba develops artificial shrimp rearing
Artificial shrimp raising is one lucrative approach to increase export earnings for Cuba's fishing industry. The current price for artificially-raised shrimps is US$3,500 to $4,000 a tonne. Larger shrimps may even fetch up to $4,700.
Investments are being made to enlarge the rearing areas and processing infrastructure to meet the increase in production. New species have also been introduced to increase survival rate, size and faster growth.
