Adiveter introduces ethoxyquin-free antioxidant formulation

Press release

Without compromising its effectiveness, AdiOx S has been reformulated by removing ethoxyquin from its composition to meet the current global challenge of ethoxyquin-free production. AdiOx S is a synthetic antioxidant based on BHT. Thanks to its unique formulation and antioxidant properties, it ensures maximum freshness of feed, protecting its quality and increasing its useful life.

The current legislative framework in the European Union prohibits the introduction of antioxidant products with ethoxyquin for animal feed.

Adiveter has therefore researched the development of a line of effective and competitive antioxidants in the ethoxychin-free market to meet the challenge of the current legislative trend.

AdiOx S is an effective alternative to ethoxyquin thanks to its components that act synergistically to protect feed from oxidation, ensuring product safety and quality and maximum animal production performance. In addition, its presentation ensures good diffusion and homogenisation in the feed and allows for easy handling.

Feed oxidation impacts the entire chain

Feed oxidation occurs mainly in ingredients with a large amount of fat and is caused by the reaction of oxygen from the air with unsaturated fatty acids, causing the release of volatile free radicals (aldehydes, ketones and epoxides) and resulting in lipid degradation and the development of rancidity. Oxygen and light remain the primary factors affecting feed oxidation, although high-temperature microbiological contamination and the presence of microelements (Cu, Fe, Mg, Zn, Se) can also influence.

Feed oxidation, therefore, has an impact on final feed quality, altering its organoleptic and nutritional qualities and putting at risk feed safety along the production chain. Oxidised feed intake by animals induce in vivo oxidation of the membranes of enterocytes and result in subsequent apoptosis, decreasing the productive performance of animals. The use of antioxidants in diets provides multiple benefits in these aspects: Raw materials and feed preservation: Keep the organoleptic characteristics, the palatability and nutritional value; Animal health: Better immunity, health and performance; Final product quality: Better stability and useful life; Better consumer safety: Less use of antibiotics.

Antioxidant efficacy evaluation

The successful formula of AdiOx S guarantees maximum feed freshness. Adiveter also provides a technical and laboratory team for technical assistance and analytical services throughout the production process.

Efficacy studies were performed using the Rancimat technique (110ºC ISO 6886) on animal fat. The Rancimat is a system of analysis for the determination of oxidative stability in which the aging process of the sample is accelerated by increasing the temperature and the passage of a continuous stream of air, and the time that elapses until oxidation takes place at high speed is measured.

Although ethoxyquin has a higher rate of antioxidant action, AdiOx S has higher retention forces with free radicals making it more durable. In addition, it is more stable allowing treatment of the feed at higher temperatures.

The efficacy results of AdiOx S show that it is an effective alternative to ethoxyquin. The combination of BHT with citric acid provides the antioxidant properties making it the antioxidant of choice to ensure maximum productive performance on farms.

AdiOx S offers:

-        +2.4 h protection vs Ethoxyquin.

-        2.4 protection factor vs Ethoxyquin (1.9)

-        +6.9 h of protection vs. control

The protection factor was calculated by dividing the induction time of the product by the induction time of the control, with a factor greater than 1 indicating antioxidant activity and less than 1 indicating prooxidant activity.
