South Korea doubling drug stockpile amid swine flu concern

South Korea will double its stockpiles of Tamiflu and other drugs amid swine flu outbreaks elsewhere, the Yonhap news agency cited a top health official as saying Monday (April 27).

The state-run Korea Centre for Disease Control, or KCDC, already has enough of the anti-viral drug Tamiflu to treat up to 2.5 million people - about 5 percent of the country's population - the South Korean news agency said.

"We believe that the nation has a sufficient amount of influenza medicine, including Tamiflu and Relenza," the report quoted KCDC director Lee Jong-koo as saying. "Still, we plan to increase the amount to be able to treat 5 million people."
