ASF still an issue in Sabah, Malaysia, says state agriculture minister

Sabah, Malaysia, is not yet completely free from the African swine fever (ASF) since it was detected in February 2021, said Datuk Seri Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, Sabah's State Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries.
He said, as of August 31 last year, 20 districts had been affected by this disease and were still in the recovery zone. Monitoring was still being done to ensure there were no new infections.
He added that the ban on wild boar hunting remained for now.
"Although ASF cases have subsided, it is not safe to allow hunting. We need to confirm there is nothing coming in and nothing coming out from Sabah," Dr. Kitingan said. "In the meantime, be patient."
