Indonesia seeks cooperation with Netherlands to boost dairy processing industry

The Indonesian Industry Ministry is looking to explore cooperation and investment opportunities with the Netherlands to spur the development of Indonesia's dairy processing industry, Antara reported.
Putu Juli Ardika, Director General of Agro Industry at Indonesia's Ministry of Agriculture, said quality dairy cow supply needs to be strengthened to meet the demand for domestic fresh milk as raw material for dairy products.
Ardika said that his delegation visited the Netherlands in mid-April 2023, along with representatives from the Indonesian Embassies in Brussels and The Hague.
The Indonesian delegation met with the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature, and Food Quality (LNV), The Netherlands Agricultural and Horticultural Association (LTO), FrieslandCampina NV a Dutch multinational dairy cooperative, and some dairy farmers supported by the cooperative.
According to the director general, the purpose of the working visit was to observe the implementation of modern and sustainable dairy farming in the Netherlands.
He said dairy processing industry players in the Netherlands have various potentials that can be explored further with various parties in Indonesia, particularly private parties interested in investing in (the supply of) dairy cows.
During the meeting with LNV, he said that several large dairy processing companies in Indonesia were interested in purchasing 8000 to 16,000 Holstein dairy cows from the Netherlands.
He said that the aim is to address the current 80% shortage of fresh milk for the Indonesian dairy processing industry.
