Bill filed in Santa Catarina, Brazil, to drive pork consumption
A bill instituting a policy to encourage pork consumption in Brazil's Santa Catarina was filed this month at the state's Legislative Assembly.
The proposal is one of the measures discussed with the pork production industry which is facing a serious crisis caused by excess production and the worsening of the economic situation in the country and worldwide. According to the Santa Catarina Association of Pig Farmers, the situation affects more than a thousand independent swine farmers.
The project lists a series of actions such as encouraging the consumption of pork produced in the state, valuing the work of pig farmers, developing production arrangements, technical and operational support for pig farmers, research and technical studies to support the development of production, making financial resources available (credit lines and tax reductions) and encouragement and inclusion of pork protein consumption in schools, among other points.
