Two outbreaks of FMD in Southern China provinces

Two outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease were identified Friday in China's southern Hunan and Guizhou provinces, the Ministry of Agriculture said over the weekend.

The disease was confirmed to be Asian FMD I, and the local government has killed cattle in the area to prevent the spread of the disease, the ministry said in a statement published on its Web site.

The epidemic disease was under effective control, it said.
