IGC: World 2007/08 corn crop seen at record 746 million tonnes

The world is set to harvest a record 746 million tonnes of corn in 2007/08, 52 million tonnes more than last season, according to estimates issued by the International Grains Council (IGC) Thursday (Apr 26).

The IGC raised their world corn plantings forecast by 13 million tonnes from the previous estimate following a projected increase of 15 percent in the US, which could result in a US crop around 315 million tonnes.
