Philippines Jan-Jun feed wheat imports likely to fall 58 percent

Philippine imports of feed wheat in the first six months of the year are expected to fall 58 percent to 273,751 tonnes due to the grain's high price in the global market, a feed milling industry official said Friday.

"Based on what the feed millers have contracted so far, only 273,751 tonnes of wheat are expected to arrive for the January to June period," the official said.

The indicative price for wheat is currently US$235/tonne on a cnf basis, against an average price level of US$140/tonne a year ago, the official said.

Most of the wheat imports this year will come from China, the official said.

Imports in the first six months of 2006 totalled 660,230 tonnes.

Wheat and corn are major components of livestock and poultry feeds.
