Bird flu detected in Bulgaria at an industrial farm

Bulgaria's food safety agency has confirmed a new bird flu outbreak at a laying hens farm in southern Bulgaria in the village of Elenino, near Stara Zagora city, Reuters reported.

The industrial farm is the eighth reported case of highly pathogenic avian influenza type A in the southern part of Bulgaria since December 2021.

Officials have culled the remaining birds at the farm to stop the spread of the virus.

Bird flu outbreaks have been reported in other parts of Europe, Asia, and in North America. France is facing its biggest bird flu outbreak ever, with almost 8% of egg-laying hens being killed. The US is currently coping with its worst outbreak of bird flu in history.
