China's Q1 2021 pig numbers increased 30.6%


 

China had produced 171.43 million live pigs in the first quarter of 2021, an increase of 30.6% (+40.15 million) over the same period in 2020.

 

The country's output of pork was 13.69 million tonnes, an increase of 31.9% (+3.31 million tonnes).

 

With the implementation of various policies and measures to stabilise the production and supply of live pigs, China's live pig inventory has continued to recover and has increased for six consecutive quarters, returning to 94.2% that of 2017 levels.

 

At the end of the first quarter, the national live pig inventory was 415.95 million pigs, a year-on-year increase of 94.75 million pigs (+29.5%). There were 43.18 million breeding sows, a year-on-year increase of 27.7% (+9.37 million sows), representing a 3.8% increase over the end of the fourth quarter in 2020.
