China Broiler Weekly: Prices consolidate before May Day holidays (week ended Apr 26, 2017)

Market analysis

AA broiler

Average price of AA broiler increased 0.74%, propped up by price hikes in the northeast as markets softened in other regions. Although the quantity of finishing broiler decreased, demand weakened as slaughterhouses were reluctant to expand inventories, which remained high due to slow sales of chicken products.

 

Prices of day-old chick rose to the range of RMB1.05-1.45/bird amid stable demand.

 

China breed broiler

China breed broiler market strengthened in most regions, but prices fell sharply by over 8% in the south. Overall, China breed broiler prices slid 0.49% over the week.

 

Generally, demand for native broilers continued to improve as more live poultry centres were reopened. However, high release volumes put a lid on the prices of China breed broiler.

 

As farmers regained confidence, sales of day-old chick increased, lifting prices during the period in review.

 

Market forecast

In the coming days before May Day holidays, farmers are expected to hasten broiler releases in anticipation of weaker demand after the holidays. Prices of broiler will be under pressure as a result of ample supplies.
