Russia's Far Eastern District to increase plantings of corn and soy
The Far Eastern Federal District of Russia is planning to increase planted areas for corn by 19.1 thousand hectares, compared with 67.3 thousand hectares in 2012.
Soy will also see increased plantings at 1.013 million tonnes, a rise of 68.7 thousand hectares over 2012, said the country's Ministry of Agriculture.
The region will also give special attention to the planting of forage crops, which areas will increase by 31.3 thousand hectares.
In 2013, the general planted areas of spring crops in all categories of enterprises, based in the Far Eastern Federal District, are forecasted at 1.631 million hectares, an increase of 6.8% compared with 2012.
In particular, spring grains and pulses will cover the areas of 400.1 thousand hectares, up 3.3% from 2012.
