Nearly 60 ASF-infected hogs confirmed in Dauis, Bohol, Philippines

Almost 60 hogs in Dauis, Bohol, the Philippines, were tested positive for African swine fever (ASF), according to the governor of Bohol City, Erico Aristotle "Aris" Aumentado.

Aumentado said in an interview on April 22 that there are 57 ASF cases in Dauis.

In a separate statement, Aumentado, through an Executive Order (EO), announced that he prohibited the transit of live hogs, meat and other pork-related products from Panglao Island, which comprised the towns of Dauis and Panglao, into mainland Bohol.

"The provincial government remains committed to being active and vigilant in protecting the livestock and poultry industry to secure food security in the province, including the ₱6 billion (US$104.3 million) swine industry, against all forms of contagious and viral diseases," he said. "The province has also intensified its disease monitoring and surveillance to prevent the possible disease from spreading to other mainland areas and encourages all Boholanos to cooperate with the protocols as mandated in the EO."

The ban will take effect until May 18.
