Ukraine's grain, agricultural products stopped from entering Poland, Hungary and Slovakia

Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia have temporarily banned imports of grain and other agricultural products from Ukraine.

The ban is in effect until the end of June.

Official representatives from the countries reported that the ban was needed in order to protect their national agriculture industries from competing with a high volume of cheaper, imported goods from Ukraine. They also reported that harmful substances, like pesticides, were detected during the inspection of imported Ukrainian grain, citing food safety issues as another reason for the import ban.

Slovakia has specified that it will continue to allow the transit of Ukrainian goods through the country under strict control.

According to the the countries concerned, the European Commission rejects the import ban as a unilateral action.
