Russia's cattle, fowl production rises

 

 

Russia's cattle and fowl production reached 668,400 tonnes in March, an increase of 10.2% as compared to the same period of 2012.

 

This is based on the results of Russian cattle breeders work in March 2013 as endorsed by the Russian Federal State Statistics Service (ROSSTAT).

 

The outlined positive tendency was provided mainly by the increase in pig production by 25.5% to 197,100 tonnes. Also good dynamics was observed in output of sheep and goats. Increase by 20.4% to 1,900 tonnes was fixed in the sector. Production of fowl grew by 6.3% and totalled 393,700 tonnes.

 

However, some reduction in the market in March was observed too. Production of cattle for slaughter decreased by 2.2% to 74,700 tonnes as compared with March 2012.

 

Also during the month, milk yield volume decreased by 5.6% to 1,217 million tonnes. Eggs output was reduced by 1.8% to 2.79 million eggs.

 

According to the ROSSTAT's report, positive dynamics was fixed in livestock of pigs (+20.1% - to 14.4 million heads), and fowl (+4.1% - to 406.335 million heads). At the same time, as of April 1, 2013 there were 9.137 million heads of cattle in Russian agricultural organisations. That is 1.8% less than in 2012. Cows livestock decreased by 2.3% (to 3.593 million heads). Livestock of sheep and goats was reduced by 0.6% to 4.54 million heads.
