Russia halts import of Polish beef

Russia's agricultural watchdog, the Rosselkhoznadzor, recently blocked a 19.5-tonne beef shipment from Poland due to sanitary issues.

Kaliningrad region in Russia stopped the entry of the Polish beef as it has failed to meet veterinary and sanitary standards, the authority said.

Russian experts said they have found about 900 kilogrammes of expired beef.

Documents indicate that the beef has been produced in November 2006. Identification tags on the meat said its expiry date was in December 2006.
