Russia to meet domestic poultry and pork demand in four years

Russia would be able to meet domestic poultry and pork demand in four years' time, said Ivan Obolentsev, chairman of the agriculture commission of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

Obolentsev also expects that production will be abundant enough that they could be exported.

Russia implemented a national priority project Agriculture, which helped to increase domestic poultry and pork production by 20 percent annually, said Obolentsev. He added that measures taken by the government to control poultry and pork imports have also helped in the growth.

Russia currently supplies about 70 percent of domestic poultry demand and exports could indeed be possible in the near future should the growth of the poultry industry continue. Forecasts for pork production growth are similar.
