Indonesia to see rising wheat consumption, report says
Indonesia may see a shift in consumption from rice to wheat products as it becomes more affluent and urbanised, a report from the Centre for Agricultural and Rural Development said.
A consumption survey indicated a probability of consumers moving towards wheat-based products while rice consumption is expected to fall.
As prices of wheat decline, consumption would increase by 7.06 percent, which would mean higher imports.
Suppliers such as Australia and China would benefit from the growth in this market, according to the study. However, with dependable supply, product quality assurance, and credit availability, North American suppliers may still wield a strong presence in this market, the report said.
