Brazil's pork exports in March dropped in volume and revenue

90,700 tonnes of fresh and processed pork products were shipped by Brazil in March 2024, down 6.3% from February 2024 and down by 14.3% from March 2023, based on Secex data compiled and analysed by the Center for Advanced Studies on Applied Economics (CEPEA).

According to CEPEA researchers, the drop in export volume was due to lower demand from Brazil's key Asian partners, such as China, Hong Kong (China) and Singapore.

Even so, in the first quarter of 2024, the total amount shipped reached 286,000 tonnes, 5.3% more than in the first three months of last year and a record for the period, considering Secex's historical series, which began in 1997.

Export revenue in March this year reached R$953.2 million (US$183.5 million), 6% lower than the previous month and 25.9% lower than in March 2023.

In the quarterly balance, Brazilian exporters received R$2.9 billion, down 11.8% from the same period last year.
