Turkey thrives on heavy sale of wheat, durum and barley
Turkey has been selling grain heavily on international markets in recent months following a good harvest last summer, adding to large supplies on global grains markets.
The Turkish Grain Board (TMO) has sold 50,000 tonnes of white milling wheat; 20,000 tonnes of red milling wheat; 5,000 tonnes of hard durum wheat; 25,000 tonnes of feed wheat; and 45,000 tonnes of white feed barley in an export tender, European traders said on Thursday (Apr 22).
Highest price for the white wheat was US$169 a tonne fob, the red wheat was all sold at US$173 a tonne fob and the durum all at US$215.13 a tonne fob. The feed wheat was all sold at US$156.01 a tonne fob. Highest barley price was US$159.06 a tonne fob.
In its previous sale tender on April 1, the TMO sold 25,000 tonnes of white milling wheat at the lower price of US$155.38 a tonne fob and 25,000 tonnes of red milling wheat at US$161.51 a tonne fob.
Traders said the cash prices of Black Sea exports and the lack of Russian farmers selling had both helped Turkey achieve a higher price.
