US broiler exports delayed due to shortage of refrigerated containers
US broiler exports have been delayed in recent weeks due to a shortage of refrigerated shipping containers.
The disruptions have been attributed to increased volume of trade led by the weak US dollar.
Shipping lines have also diverted containers to intra-Asia trade and to more profitable cargos.
US broiler export volume may fall as a result, and commodity groups are meeting to attempt to solve the problem, although government intervention is not expected.
The US exported 258,000 tonnes of broiler parts, mainly leg quarters, at a value of US$248 million in February.
