Canada explores Vietnam for pork opportunities

Delegates from the Canada Pork International (CPI) are currently assessing market opportunities for Canadian pork in Vietnam.

Martin Lavoie, CPI's deputy managing director said Vietnam's robust economic development and growing demand for quality meat can accommodate Canada's pork.

Export would be much easier post-WTO since Vietnam had cut import tariffs on pork by 50 percent and the two countries had signed a food safety deal, he said.

Known globally as a major pork exporter, Canada presently has Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the Philippines, and China as its markets.
