Additional 10,000 tonnes of pork to be auctioned from China's state reserves

The China Merchandise Reserve Management Center said a further 10,000 tonnes of frozen pork will be auctioned from China's state reserves on April 23, 2020, reported Reuters.

A total of 280,000 tonnes of frozen pork has been released from China's state reserves since the start of 2020 as the country aims to lower rising pork prices due to low supplies.

The African swine fever outbreak first discovered in August 2018 has decimated about 40% of China's swine herds. To supplement dwindling supplies, China approved additional overseas meat facilities for import and introduced new measures to recover its swine production.
