India's Tirumala Milk to build three milk processing facilities
India's dairy production company, Tirumala Milk Products, will invest US$55.7 million in the construction of three milk processing and packaging facilities in the country.
The first plant will be built at Melmaruvathur, 80km from Chennai in southern India, and will be operational by the end of 2013. The plant will process 400,000 litres of milk daily to meet demand in the southern districts of Chennai city and central parts of Tamil Nadu state.
Tirumala's executive director, EN Rao, said that the company plans to build two more milk processing plants, with one near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu and another in the north-central part of the neighbouring Karnataka state.
Established in 1998, Tirumala Milk is one of the fastest-growing dairy companies in India.
