EP Grain sends wheat shipment to Iraq

EP Grain has shipped 50,000 tonnes of wheat to Iraq for the first time from Port Lincoln, South Australia.

The shipment from EP Grain, which represents South Australia's Eyre Peninsula grain farmers, is a milestone for the company that was formed through the collaboration of FREE Eyre Ltd and grains manager Emerald Group Australia Pty Ltd.

General manager Tim Burrow said the sale of the wheat to Iraq was important to local growers. FREE Eyre Ltd is a grower-owned company formed to give farmers more control of their produce after the Australian grain market was deregulated last year, and that allowed the growers to focus on grain quality, said Burrow.

Iraq is adamant about wheat quality, Burrow said.

Burrow said they will continue to focus on markets that will provide dividends for their growers.
