China's New Hope builds pig breeding farm in Shandong

China's merged New Hope-Liuhe Group will invest RMB80 million in a new pig breeding farm in Linyi, Shandong province.

Upon completion, the farm will be stocked with 200 heads of boars and 5,000 heads of swine, all of which will be imported from Canada's Hypor, the world's second largest swine genetics company. Annual production of piglets is expected to hit 100,000 heads.

Under its plans, New Hope will establish contract farming arrangements with other medium-scale hog farms in Linyi. The provision of piglets, animal health services and feed formulation will be undertaken by the company. New Hope will also build a new slaughterhouse in Linyi, thus enabling integration in the pork production process.

With the completion of this project, Shandong's Linyi will emerge to be a major pork production region in China.
