Aviagen appoints director of quality assurance for North America

Aviagen has appointed Derrick Tice as director of quality assurance for North America, effective April 19.

Based in Aviagen's corporate office in Huntsville, Alabama, the United States, Tice will report directly to Aviagen North America president Marc de Beer.

Tice will ensure the quality of Aviagen's birds, from their beginning on GP farms to the time they are delivered at customer farms. He will also collaborate with sales and service teams and with customers, to make sure they are satisfied with healthy, high-quality parent stock chicks.

Tice came to Aviagen from animal health and disease prevention company Boehringer Ingelheim Poultry Division, where he served as US poultry strategic account manager, with Aviagen being one of his key customers.

Before joining Boehringer Ingelheim, he served as an Aviagen employee from 2007 to 2018 as a grandparent poultry specialist, quality assurance manager for North America and grandparent operations manager.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in poultry science management from the University of Mississippi State.

"We're excited to welcome Derrick back to the Aviagen family," said de Beer. "Derrick always puts the customer and the health of our birds first, and has a passion for innovation, coupled with strong leadership skills. Our customers, our birds and our North American team will profit from his deep insight into breeding operations and his expertise in maintaining excellent quality management systems."

Tice said: "The company and I share the value of continuous quality improvement for the benefit of our birds and our customers. My goal will be to help further strengthen the top quality that Aviagen stands for by ensuring each step in the value chain leads to the delivery of the best-possible product."
