Ukraine pig population up 1.5% in February
In February this year, the pig population in Ukraine increased by 1.5% or 118,200 heads compared with January, to 7,972,100 heads as of March 1, according to the State Statistics Service.
The pig population in Ukraine increased by 3.3% or 138,000 heads compared to January, to 4,332,600 heads in private farms. In specialised farms, the pig population decreased by 0.5% or 19,800 heads to 3,639,500 heads.
The pig population rose by 2.1% or 167,200 heads against March 1, 2010.
Specifically, pig population grew by 5.3% or 184,400 heads in specialised farms, and fell by 0.4% or 17,200 heads in private farms.
In January 2011, the pig population fell by 2.3% or 185,700 heads compared with December 2010, to 7,853,900 heads as of February 1.
