Paraguay finds Ecuadorian investors for shrimp sector
The President of Paraguay has requested Ecuadorian investors to establish businesses in a variety of sectors in the country, among which is the freshwater shrimp industry.
During an official visit to Ecuador and before an audience of 300 businesspeople gathered in Guayaquil, the president of Paraguay, Fernando Lugo, assured them that he would promote the startup of shrimp production systems as a new creative way of investing and producing food.
"Paraguay is open to investments from abroad," Lugo said.
"Food production is the biggest challenge for the planet to be able to survive," Lugo pointed out, although he highlighted that this activity should be performed using modern technology that does not harm nature and the ecosystem.
Lugo emphasised that the Paraguayan government wants to make alliances with countries that have similar problems.
On the other hand, the Paraguayan president visited the city of Mitad del Mundo, which is 18 kilometres from Quito, to learn about the building of the future headquarters of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur).
Finally, he signed several bilateral social and economic agreements connected to hydropower energy generation, agriculture and tourism, with the president of Ecuador, Rafael Correa.
