Fibrowatt announces location for poultry litter power plant
Fibrowatt has announced its selection of Sampson County, North Carolina, as the location of its new renewable energy plant that will generate electricity from poultry litter.
The 55-megawatt plant is expected to cost over US$200 million, with construction likely to begin in 2009 and operation to commence in 2011.
Fibrowatt would also receive a 10-year tax-incentive package worth US$2.5 million from Sampson County, assistance with infrastructure improvements that include water and sewer services.
The citizens of Sampson County are happy and supportive of the project, and have worked hard to earn the development, according to Jeff Wilson, chairman of the Sampson County Board of Commissioners.
Fibrowatt is currently evaluating potential sites in Stanly, Surry, Wilkes, Moore, and Montgomery, all of which are located in North Carolina.
The company is considering relevant factors in the sites such as topography, site size, proximity to poultry and poultry litter supply, access to water supply and electrical transmission lines.
Fibrowatt LLC is a Pennsylvania-based developer, builder, owner and operator of electrical power plants fueled by poultry litter and other agricultural biomass. It opened the US' first commercial poultry litter power plant in Benson, Minnesota.
