Russia To Cull FMD Infected Cattle Herd


A cattle herd affected by the foot and mouth disease will be slaughtered in the Amur region, Russian Far East, the press service of the Emergency Situations Ministry announced.
 
The type O foot and mouth disease was identified on a dairy farm in the village of Sadovoye.
 
A regional emergencies commission has passed the decision to slaughter and bury all 905 head of cattle.
 
Disinfectants have been prepared and slaughtering groups are being formed for destroying the herd on Wednesday.
 
The affected animals have been isolated.
 
The operations engage 151 people and 15 pieces of machinery.
 
Veterinarians are probing into causes of the epizooty and carrying out measures to avert its spread.
