Philippines' Pampanga River Aquaculture Project harvests 500 kg of milkfish

The Philippines' Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) recently harvested 500 kg of milkfish from the Pampanga River Aquaculture Project in Barangay Sulipan, Apalit town, SunStar reported.
The project marks the initial phase of a technology demonstration project on milkfish culture in floating cages, representing a breakthrough in local Philippines aquaculture practices. BFAR aims to enhance available agri-fishery areas, boost production, and make fisheries more economically viable, all while ensuring environmental protection.
The success of the project is anticipated to positively impact fish supply in neighbouring regions, contributing to the overall enhancement of the local aquaculture industry.
BFAR said that the project highlights the untapped potential of the Pampanga River and similar water bodies for sustainable fish farming practices.
Moving forward, BFAR plans to collaborate with municipal governments and other national agencies to provide fishermen with the necessary skills and knowledge to adopt modern technology and sustainable fishing techniques.
