Chilean firm Salmones Camanchaca introduces innovative feeder pontoon

 

 

Chilean aquaculture firm Salmones Camanchaca has introduced an innovative feeder pontoon for the Williams 2 farming centre in the Cisnes district, Aysen Region, where it will provide a floating feeding platform for fattening fish with a maximum capacity of 400 tonnes of food and the possibility of accommodate up to 20 workers, Fish Information & Services reported.


The Camanchaca XXX is 300 habitable square meters and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and energy-efficient solutions. It was built in 9 months in Puerto Montt, Llanquihue Province and is a joint effort with the Sitecna shipyard.

 

The pontoon has a centralised online monitoring and registration system for service and safety variables like fuel, silage, and drinking water levels, as well as variables for main and secondary processes like energy consumption, air pressure, temperature of processes and environments. This allows users to manage information in real-time. It also features an automatic fire-fighting system and early emergency detection.

 

Pablo Albistur, manager of farming for Salmones Camanchaca, said the new pontoon has is the most modern in the company and has the highest standards in the industry.

 

Camanchaca XXX will include dining room, kitchen, cold room for vegetables and perishable foods, a fully equipped gym, cabins, bathrooms, living rooms and laundry. All of these buildings are equipped with heating and air conditioning in order to ensure the comfort and quality of life of the workers.

 

In keeping with Salmones Camanchaca's commitment to sustainability, the pontoon was built without side fenders made of vehicle tyres. Instead, it uses hull defence devices, eliminating the possibility of detachment from the seabed. It is also less environmentally intrusive due to its capacity to concentrate habitability, production operations, and other processes without the need for additional floating platforms.
