Ukrainian Avangard's January-March egg production up 11.3%
In January-March 2012, Avangard holding company increased egg output by 11.3% to 1.551 billion pieces over year, reads a statement made by the company.
The Company increased its production as a result of the growth in the population of laying hens as well as productivity improvements.
The total poultry flock grew by 3.2% or 0.8 million to 28 million on year, with the number of laying hens increasing by 10.2% or 1.9 million to 20.5 million.
During the reporting period, sales to external customers increased by 14.3% or 0.15 billion to 1.203 billion on year as the Company continued to refocus its sales channels on exports and on national retail chains.
In the first quarter of 2012, the average egg price increased by 37% or UAH0.2-0.74 (US$0.02-0.09) (net of VAT) on year as a result of overall growth of shell egg prices in Ukraine, significant growth in export volumes of the Company and increase in sales to supermarkets.
The amount of shell eggs processed rose 0.4% or 1 million to 270 million pieces over this period.
The Company has started exporting shell eggs to new markets such as Mauritania and Libya, and egg products to Taiwan.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Avangard increased the volume of production of shell eggs by 34.73% or 1.535 billion to 5.955 billion pieces in 2011 as compared with 2010.
