Aviagen holds its first poultry management class in China

Aviagen, a top poultry breeding company, recently completed a week-long poultry management course in Beijing.

The Aviagen China School brought participants from all across China to learn the latest in poultry science and its practical applications in breeder and broiler operations.

The course, held March 12-16 at the Jiuhua Resort & Convention Centre in Beijing, was attended by 45 participants from nine different poultry companies across China.

On the first day, participants learnt about the latest in Aviagen genetics and product development from Craig Morton, Aviagen's global product director.

Topics discussed and lectured on for the following days included brooding management, hatchery management and female breeder management. On the third day, a comprehensive lecture on the fundamentals of proper ventilation was given. The last two days featured lectures on vaccination programmes and male management.

All lectures, presentations and discussions were translated into Chinese by Han Feng, Aviagen's assistant VP in China.

The market in China is large and dynamic, said Bill Souther, Aviagen VP in Asia. As Aviagen's presence in this market grows, the company saw a need to provide educational opportunities in proper poultry management practices, he said.

Aviagen's course was based on the after the Arbor Acres Production Management Course held annually for the past 44 years in the USA.

While the Arbor Acres course is a month-long event, the Aviagen China School was tailored more towards the market in China.
