Russia's 2005/06 grain export seen at 12 million tonnes
A bumper 2005 grain harvest means Russia can export more grain this marketing year, Deputy Agriculture Minister Sergey Mitin told a Moscow meeting Wednesday (Apr 19).
Mitin said the 2005 grain harvest of 78.5 million tonnes enabled Russia to fully satisfy its domestic grain requirements, and export 12 million tonnes. Previously, the agriculture ministry had expected Russia to be able to export 10 million tonnes of grain.
Russia exported 10.9 million tonnes of grain between the beginning of the current marketing year--Jul 1 2005--and March 31, compared with 6.5 million tonnes in the corresponding period in the previous marketing year, according to the agrarian market research institute IKAR.
