Brazil's foreign ministry announced that Russia will resume imports of Brazilian beef products, following a month-long halt caused by a mad cow disease scare, Yahoo! News reported.
Two weeks after the mad cow case was discovered in Brazil on February 20, it was labelled "atypical," and Brazilian authorities attempted to resume exports to many of the country's foreign markets.
The ban only applied to meat from the Brazilian state of Para, where the unusual case was discovered.
The ministry said they welcomed Russia's announcement that restrictions on Brazilian beef imposed due to an isolated case of atypical Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) in the state of Para have been lifted.
According to Brazilian government data, beef exports to Russia in 2022 will total around US$165 million, or 24,000 tonnes.
Due to the mad cow disease scare, China also imposed a month-long ban on Brazilian exports, but that ban was lifted on March 23.
