French pig associations adopt statues, regulations to bolster market power

Ten pig associations in France have adopted the statutes and internal regulations of the new Association of Producer Organizations (AOP) which aims to strengthen the market power of farmers who are members of producer organisations.

The 10 associations are Agrial, Eureden, Elpor, Evel Up, GRPPO, Porcinéo, Porélia, Sypro Porcs, Porvéo and Porc Armor Evolution. AOP, which is led by young farmers in western France, is the first of its kind in Europe. It also seeks to ensure a response to market needs and the expectations of consumers and citizens.

The AOP Porc Grand Ouest is part of the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy. It will act with the aim of obtaining operational programmes to co-finance the structuring of projects, in particular, for the modernisation of farms.

A decision has been made to submit an application to the French Ministry of Agriculture for the recognition of AOP — an essential step to start its activities.
