USDA lowers forecast for 2022 US pork production

The United States Department of Agriculture has lowered its forecast for US pork production to 12.3 million tonnes in 2022, 2% lower than 2021, as lower hog inventories and farrowing intentions lead to tighter pig supplies for the remainder of the year.

Meanwhile, tight domestic pork supplies and correspondingly high prices are expected to weigh on US exports while lower imports from China will increase competition in other Asian markets.

US exports are forecast to decline 6% year over year to just under 3.0 million tonnes.
