H5N1 bird flu detected in Hungarian goose farm
Hungary's National Food Chain Safety Office (NEBIH) has detected an outbreak of the highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu virus at a goose farm county of Bacs-Kiskun, Reuters reported.
About 3,500 geese at the farm will be culled.
NEBIH said birds at all farms within three kilometres of the infected goose farm will be culled in order to prevent the spread of the virus.
Bird flu outbreaks have been reported in other parts of Europe, Asia, and in North America. France is facing its biggest bird flu outbreak ever, with almost 8% of egg-laying hens being killed. The US is currently coping with its worst outbreak of bird flu in history.
