Ukraine's poultry meat exports increase in Q1 2013



In the first quarter of 2013, Ukraine's exports of poultry meat and poultry processed products increased by 29,200 tonnes to US$49.9 million, more than double the first quarter of 2012.


This is according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.


In addition, the import of poultry meat and poultry processed products for the first three months of 2013 fell by 1.3% to 17,240 tonnes versus 17,470 tonnes during the same period last year. According to official statics the total cost of imported products amounted to US$20.2 million.


As domestic production continues to increase, the production of eggs in the country grew by 3% in comparison with January-March of 2012, while the production of poultry rose by 19%.


At the same time the largest producers, including companies such as MHP and Agromars continued to increase their market share.


"A consolidation of the market is being observed, with the growth of large enterprises, and at the same time, the decrease in the market share of small enterprises," said Alexander Bakumenko, chairman of the Union of Poultry Farmers, Ukraine.
