South Africa corn yields rise to 6.49 million tonnes

South Africa delivered 67,000 tonnes of corn to silos in the week to April 11, up on the 47,000 tonnes the week before, the South African Grain Information Service said Wednesday in its weekly harvest report.

The delivery brings the total corn harvested so far this season to 6.49 million tonnes, just over 600,000 tonnes short of the projected 7.125 million tonnes target.

The crop consists of 4.078 million tonnes of white corn and 2.407 million tonnes of yellow corn.

South African farmers harvest corn each year from about April to early August, with the key harvest months being June and July.
