Pfizer builds global manufactuing base in China's Suzhou
Pfizer (Suzhou) Animal Health Co. Ltd held a celebration recently to announce the completion of its new plant expansion in Jiangsu's Suzhou hi-tech zone.
The expansion marks a transition in strategy for Pfizer, which plans to convert its facility in Suzhou from one supplying premix additive products to the Asia-Pacific to one serving the world.
Exports are expected to be expanded from 10 countries in the Asia-Pacific currently to 55 countries globally. Production would also be ramped up from 800 tonnes to 7,000 tonnes.
With a 158-year-old history behind it, Pfizer Inc develops, manufactures, and markets leading prescription medicines for humans and animals and many of the world's best-known consumer brands. Pfizer (Suzhon) Co. Ltd running one of the company's manufacturing base, also acted as supplier of animal health products.
Established in 1995, the Suzhou subsidiary has so far received investments of US$ 23.5 million, with plant facilities spanning an area of 100,000 square meters.
The company has some of the world's most advanced facilities, testing technology and a series of animal and farm-based antibiotics. It is one of the first companies in China to receive both GMP and production certification. Currently it produces premix additives and solubles.
The company said as consumers now have a heightened awareness of food safety, poultry meat and egg quality has become paramount. As veterinary medicine directly affects the health of consumers, Pfizer plays an important role in providing the improvement in quality.
Currently, about 40 percent of the company's production is sold in the local market.
